I was living in Luxembourg when we decided to move, but we weren’t sure where to. My partner and I picked our three favourite cities; Berlin, Amsterdam, and Copenhagen and we started applying for jobs. We agreed that wherever the first job offer came from, that would be our destination. Amsterdam was our first choice so when my partner got the first offer from Amsterdam, we were extremely happy!
My partner’s company arranged for a real estate agent to help us find an apartment to live in. The first place he took us to was in the heart of the bustling Red Light District, the streets were loud and busy… but when we stepped into the apartment it was quiet and peaceful and we were home.
Since moving to Amsterdam, I feel so inspired by this city and its people. There are so many entrepreneurs and self-starters here, it’s brought out my creative spark. I have been surprised somewhat by the language barrier, especially when it comes to my line of work, but I’m planning to learn Dutch and I’m hoping my German background will give me a head start. I found inspiration from the experienced ladies at The WE Club and eventually launched my own business. The entire process took me 24 hours and now I am a solopreneur in Amsterdam. I love it.
Amsterdam is a fantastic city to be a freelancer in. It has this unique creative cafe spirit. It feels like almost all of the cafés have this cosy co-working vibe going on, you can just sit down with your Mac, do your work, and let good things happen.
